I can remember when I was in High School and found out that I had Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar). Man did I feel terrible! Didn't have the energy to walk down the hall at school and it got so bad that I was blacking out - almost felt like a seizure.. the fix? I had to change my diet and get rid of all of the bad boys.. sugar and carbs.. and HELLO PROTEIN and healthy food.
Within 30 days, I was back to feeling like myself and was almost afraid to ever eat sugar or pasta again! lol. But as time has gone on, I am not as stringent as I was, but still watch it. Because although I CRAVE sugar, I know that it will have an adverse effect on me... and don't even get me started on sugar.. that is for another day :)
Now a days, we see Protein Shakes and Powders all over, and we know that we should eat our meats and other forms of proteins to feel good and be strong. However, this took me by surprise when I read this article to help you get lean and lose weight (Article Written by Womens' Health Magazine).
If you are lifting weights and working out, you are going to build muscle no matter what.. but your body needs more than just working out, sometimes Mother Nature needs to step in to give us the best results. Do you want to know the secret? Did you know that your muscles want to build themselves up on their own with eating the proper amount of protein?
I had no idea how hard that your body works and the positive results that we can get if we follow the Law of the Protein. The secret you ask? When eating your meals, you need to incorporate 10 - 15 grams of protein per meal - and that will get your body going through a cycle of building strong muscles. If you eat 30 grams of protein, your body will be working for 3 hours! And as you know, muscle burns calories - Lean and Strong.
One of the problems is that as Americans, we tend to overload our protein and veggies at dinner - our body is still building muscle, but the downfall - next day, because we are lacking the protein - muscle is being broken down.. not good. So this is why we need to include protein in every meal; and why not teach our children some good stuff? I know that when my son has a "moment" - he is hungry and needs protein.
A rule of thumb of where your daily protein should fall is a very simple formula : we need .54 - 1 gram of protein per pound - example a 120 pound person needs anywhere from .64.8 - 120 grams per day. You can find protein every where - my fav is boiling eggs. I boil them for the week and keep them in my fridge - and the whole family loves em! Or even a glass of chocolate milk (also a perfect snack after a tough workout). You don't have to spend a fortune on the shakes and powders, there are so many inexpensive and natural alternatives out there for us.
Hope this works for you, but if you think about it, our bodies need to be fueled with the good stuff all day - and when your sugar drops, the first thing that we tend to do is grab the "quick" food - usually an unhealthy snack loaded with sugar. Which makes you feel even worse!
So get a few snacks full of protein and make it a habit to incorporate them into you and your family's meals.. all for healthy and strong body and mind:)
Peace! :)
xoxo
